Best Prime Day Tablet Deals: Save $40 on an iPad Air, $281 on a Microsoft Surface Pro 8

Apple is venerable iPad dominates the tablet scene. And while many buyers continue to choose an iPad, there are a few reasons why you might choose Android tablets or a Windows tablet instead. Perhaps you are looking for an affordable tablet for your child. If you use an Android phone, it makes a lot of sense to get a tablet with the same platform. And don’t forget Windows tablets, which are good at bridging the gap between work and home.

As Amazon Prime Day approaches and the early Prime Day deals begin, here are the best tablet deals from Amazon, Best Buy, Target and Walmart. Amazon’s own Fire tablets are not currently discounted, but they are often included in Prime Day price cuts. If you’re buying a Fire or Fire Kids tablet, I suggest waiting until Prime Day starts on July 12th.

Ready to max out your dollar buying tablets? Discounts on Apple’s iPads are usually few, but you can save $20 on the latest 10.2-inch iPad and $40 on the latest 10.9-inch iPad Air at Amazon. In addition to the Surface Pro tablets from Microsoft, there are also a few Android tablets from Samsung on offer.

Apple’s most affordable tablet, the 10.2-inch iPad, didn’t get a design overhaul like its mini cousin last fall, but it does offer a faster processor, a better front-facing camera, and a better display than the eighth-generation iPad. The biggest change is the storage, which has been doubled to 64GB on the base model and 256GB on the step-up model. That being said, the change you’ll most likely welcome in this age of FaceTime and Zoom calls is the front camera, which goes from 1.2-megapixels to a wider-angle 12-megapixels. iPad also added Center Stage to keep your mug in frame during video calls. The only discount we currently see for it is a $20 discount at Amazon and Walmart. Read our ninth-generation iPad review.

Walmart

You can now save $40 on Apple’s latest iPad Air. It costs $599 from the Apple Store and features Apple’s M1 chip found in the company’s iPad Pros, along with 5G and a wide-angle front camera with Center Stage autofocus video capability. CNET’s iPad expert Scott Stein still recommends the cheaper 10.2-inch iPad for most people, but sees this iPad Air as a solid step up. Although the new iPad Air has been available for about a month, it has already received its first discount. You can save $40 on the base 64GB model on Amazon. Read our iPad Air 2022 review.

Samsung

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE is a mid-range Android tablet that sits somewhere between a basic iPad and an iPad Pro. The base model Galaxy Tab S7 FE (short for Fan Edition) with 64GB of storage is currently discounted by $110 on Amazon. And you can save $160 on the 256GB step-up model. The tablet has a spacious 12.4-inch display and includes Samsung’s S Pen for drawing and jotting down notes.

Microsoft

It’s a generation behind the Surface Pro 8, which launched alongside Windows 11 last month, but the Surface Pro 7 remains an excellent two-in-one tablet. This Surface Pro 7 model is $189 off Amazon and runs on a 10th Gen Intel Core i5 CPU, 8GB of RAM, and a 128GB solid-state drive. The 12.3-inch touchscreen has a razor-sharp resolution of 2,736 x 1,824 pixels. This discounted model does not include a clip-on keyboard.

Microsoft released the latest version of its flagship two-in-one tablet when it launched Windows 11 in late 2021. It features a larger 13-inch display from the Surface Pro 7 and a slimmer stylus, while adding a pair of Thunderbolt 4 ports. Inside, this model packs an 11th gen Core i5 CPU, 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. The list price for this model is $1,200, but the price has dropped by $281 on Amazon. Annoyingly, the clip-on keyboard costs extra, but the current discount can help cover that cost.

Samsung

With its reduced price, this affordable Android tablet is a great choice as an affordable entertainment tablet for kids. It features a small (kid-friendly) 8.7-inch display with a resolution of 1,340 x 800 pixels, protected by a durable (kid-resistant) metal body. Note that the keyboard case is not included.
