Best OLED Laptop Deals: Lowest Prices and Biggest Discounts at Amazon, Best Buy and Newegg
Not so long ago, laptops with OLED displays were high-priced affairs aimed at graphics professionals engaged in creative work. Now OLED displays are found on mainstream laptops for general users who might also enjoy excellent contrast and accurate, vibrant colors.
How does an OLED panel achieve this level of quality? A quick introduction: The pixels in an OLED display can be turned off entirely, meaning it can produce absolute black and contrast ratios superior to those of an LCD screen, where the liquid crystal only provides a portion of that produced by the backlight can block light. Even an LCD withcannot match an OLED’s ability to turn individual pixels on and off. OLED displays also offer a wide color gamut because primary colors can reach higher saturation, which allows the display to produce more colors. Higher levels of saturation result in more vivid colors, and with more colors on its palette, an OLED panel can produce colors that are more accurate.
Another advantage? OLED displays have thinner layers than LCD displays and do not require a backlight, allowing for thinner and lighter laptop designs.
You might reasonably think that an OLED is more energy efficient than an LCD since it doesn’t need to power a backlight and can turn off individual pixels entirely. However, we’ve found that OLED displays tend to have a negative impact on battery life. However, OLED laptops still offer decent battery life. You just can’t expect a longer runtime from an OLED laptop alongside the higher image quality.
